“Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes.”
Carl Gustav Jung
Reality check 101 – man is ruled by Nature and at the start of 2020, Nature decided to remind all of us of this fact and the fragility we breathe every moment of our lives. She wasn’t trying to do anything except point out a couple of things we’ve all seemed to have forgotten in our rush to be something, to earn something, to make something of ourselves in a way that is recognized by the richest hands and the deepest pockets …
Nature’s Orchestral Wake-up Call
There is no price to be put on who we are, in truth. No dollar value for the light or life or lofty ideals we hold in our souls. No tag to be attached to the talents and creations we show the world – that vulnerability in and of itself is priceless. And another thing – nature or whatever else orchestrated the quiet awakening that has enrobed the empty streets and let loose the wildness taking a bit back from humanity’s quest to conquer: authenticity isn’t a trend. It’s the ability to accept, project, build up, and stand strong in all that makes us, us. Unique, bright stars in a galaxy that was eclipsing us but that nature has pushed back, giving us all the chance to shine so much more than before.
Who Will You “BE” Today
So, whether you are cozy’d up in your den reading this at 4am because sleeping is all we seem to do while the world outside recovers from our mess, or if you are in your kitchen, laptop on the counter as you make breakfast for the kids, the smell of percolating coffee filling the room while the sound of cartoons on the TV blares in the background as your little ones tell you they want “orange juice please, and extra syrup this time”;

… it doesn’t matter who you are or what you’re doing right now – just take one minute to stop and actually appreciate the fact you’ve been reminded there truly is so much more to life than what we have in our wallets, in our driveways, in our bank accounts, or our inboxes on vacant desks in high rise buildings that don’t seem oh so untouchable or all powerful anymore. Now is the time to be who you are, in whatever way that is. Now is the time to wake up from the slumber of convenience and compatibility. Now is the time to take a sip of coffee (damn that’s good) and instead of asking “what” you’ll do today – ask “who” you’ll BE today.
You owe it to yourself, to the rest of us … we all do. Be you. Be true. Be authentic in everything you do and find a place in this world that feeds your soul, not just your pocket book.
… and pass the syrup please …
